Body Sculpture

I have used this icebreaker in both ESL and general theater classes.

Of course if this is used in an English as a foreign language course I would recommended that you review the pertinent vocabulary before hand.
This exercise is simple in concept, but a little hard to explain. The students form teams of three.

The teacher puts the names of the parts of the human body in a hat or bag . The Professor or any leftover students take the parts out one at a time and announce to the teams which body part was selected. The one member of the team then tries to touch the aforementioned body part, although not necessarily with the hand. For example: shoulder might have been chosen and the student could touch another member of the team's shoulder with his head. But if later Head is selected the team can not simple point to the earlier touch but must find another appendage to touch a head. If a team can effectuate a touch or falls down they are eliminated. I usually warn the ladies to be quick when the word chest comes up.

So the surface objective is not to fall down but you are also supposed to create a work of art. There is usually a lot of giggles from having to put yourself in close proximity of a stranger. If you dare to try it I think you'll be pleased.
