Manoj Reddy Tummala  - Graduate promotion 2005

Technology Transfer Manager - QIMONDA / INFINEON

  • Age : 31
  • Promotion : 2005
  • Nationaly : Indian
  • Position held : Technology Transfer Manager
  • Field : Unit process Transfer and Synchronization; Metrology & Defect Density
  • Company : Qimonda Dresden Gmbh&Co
  • How did you benefit from the Master?
This program is for me the best course in semiconductor industry as it covers all the modules in semiconductor manufacturing industry. We start with designing modules with VHDL and mask level designing with RTL. Then we have front-end modules starting with crystal growth and wafer preparation then go through all the unit process steps. It covers also the physical characterization tools and testing. Back-end and management modules are a plus. Being trained in all the disciplines and having a global idea about manufacturing raised my confidence that I can fit in to any department in the semiconductor environment.
As all the teaching staff has real time experience in Semiconductor industry, they can explain more technically and closely which helps us to understand the concepts more clearly.
The internship experience is very much similar to real time experience as we can have a close interaction with the tools and fab environment.
  • In your opinion, what such a program could bring to a foreign student?
With the unique masters program in STU, Foreign students can gain excellent knowledge in semiconductor manufacturing as this kind of course may not be available in all the countries. Besides this program develops interpersonal and communication skills by interacting closely with the professors and employees.
As we can do the internship while studying the program, this will help foreign students to finish the program in time and it also helps financially as we are paid during the internship.
  • Could you have the same job if you haven't followed the master?
Certainly not...This program and real time experience with my internship at STMicroelectronics put me ahead of many other candidates who applied for the same position.
  • Was the Internship experience fruitful and /or helpful for your present experience?
Yes for sure! Without the internship experience I won’t know how a semiconductor fab works. My internship is the stepping stone which created a lot of interest in semiconductor manufacturing and also I get to see the real tools and processes
  • Which job position do you hold now & what have you planned for the next 3 years?
I am working as a technology transfer Manager for a DRAM manufacturing and R&D facility. With the help of the training in STU and internship in STMicroelectronics, I can see myself as a top performing employee, though I continue to learn and take additional responsibilities in the company. As I also got management training as a part of my masters program, I would like to move from a technical position to a management position after few years of front end experience.
