As a "Grande École" which trains engineers and researchers, the ENSM-SE has structured its research along the following areas:

Materials engineering based on shaping procedures, corrosion problems, biomaterials, ceramics and materials mechanics.

Process engineering based on physical and chemical processes using powders, focusing on sensors to continually monitor procedures, treating wood, dealing with safety problems connected with fluids and geochemical problems linked to natural processes.

Environmental engineering based on clean processes, surface treatment, problems linked to security and geographical information and environmental management systems , particularly in small to medium size industrial companies.

Industrial and organisation engineering particularly with networks of small to medium size companies and the organisation of complex production areas.

Information engineering whose main themes are the security and validity of information on the internet, multi-agent systems, processing image and industrial mathematics.

Microelectronics engineering dealing with secure systems, system integration and electronics on plastic.

Health engineering
Biomechanics, medical imaging and statistics, hospital management
