G2I

Welcome on the pages of the G2I.

The word of the director

Pr. A. Dolgui

The Industrial Engineering and Computer Sciences Centre (G2I Centre) is the former Centre of Computer Sciences created in 1970. The G2I Centre develops advanced methods for analysis and optimization of complex systems, in particular manufacturing. There are five main research departments in G2I: Scientific Methods for Industrial Management (MSGI), Organization and Modeling of Industrials Systems (OMSI), Networks, Information, Multi-media (RIM), Multi-Agent Systems (SMA), and Mathematical Methods and Models for Industry (3MI).

Common threads running through all of these departments are complex interactions within organizations or networks, sophisticated approaches for management and control of systems, and utilization of state of the art computer science and operational research techniques. The Centre is composed of 26 professors, 29 Ph.D. candidates and 5 full time employees. G2I is both research and teaching institution, with graduate and post graduate students.

G2I is known in both French and international scientific communities, the Centre has numerous world wide projects. For example, participation in European Virtual Institute on Cooperative Demand and Supply Networks (CODESNET), Scheduling in Production Systems and Supply Chain (INTAS), Inter-Organizational Workflow Management (E-ALLIANCE), Cooperation and Information Sharing in Supply Chain (COPILOTE), Collaborative Design in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (COSMOCE), Internet-Based Intelligent Tool to Support Collaborative Argumentation-Based Learning (SCALE) projects, etc. In addition, G2I has privileged relationships with the likes of ST Microelectronics, France Telecom/R&D, Schneider Electric, CEA, EDF, Elf, Total, Péchiney, Comhurex, PCI-SCEMM and Eurocopter.

One of the more exciting recent project was organizing the 12th IFAC symposium on Information Control Problem in Manufacturing (INCOM’06), which was hosted in Saint Etienne from 17 to 19 May 2006: 239 industrial representatives and about 550 academic researchers attended the symposium.

We invite you to visit our site and please consider the possibility of some type of cooperative endeavor with us. Feel free to contact us for any collaborative projects you have in mind.

The Centre for Industrial Engineering and Computer Science (G2I Centre) is composed of 26 professors, 29 Ph.D. candidates and 4 full time employees.

40 articles in prestigious scientific journals 75 conference presentations 400 000 euros of industrial contracts 11 000 teaching hours constitute the "steady state" annual performance of G2I.

Research

G2I Centre develops competences in Industrial Engineering and Computer Sciences in the following departments:

  • 3MI: Methods and Mathematical Models for Industry (Dr. E. Touboul).
  • MSGI: Scientific Methods for Industrial Management (Prof. A. Dolgui) This Department deals with advanced operational research methods for production systems design and supply chain management.
  • OMSI: Organisation and Modelling for Industrial Systems (Prof. P. Burlat) OMSI department works on enterprise modeling and information systems, in particular for SME’s networks.
  • RIM: Networks, Information, Multi-media (Prof. J.-J. Girardot) RIM department investigates Information, Interaction and Internet topics from security to multimedia.
  • SMA: Multi-Agent Systems (Prof. O. Boissier) SMA focuses on distributed open systems and multi-agent technologies.

A brief description of the research areas and savoir faire of the people in Centre G2I are explained here.

The Ph.D thesis proposals for the current year are available here.
