How to find medium to small companies in the U.S.

The first item of business is to go to this site:

The NYNEX yellow pages

 which is at:

 http://www.bigyellow.com/

On the page you will see a lot of things but one of them will look like this:

Don't try to enter information on this! It is just an image!
Now if you know the name of the firm enter it. Of course if you are looking for a small to medium firm it is unlikely that you will know the name of the firm. I was searching for names of companies in the Boston area so I chose Massachuesetts as the state, and I should have chosen Boston as the city but I forgot to.

By the way here are three other cities in the Boston area that are connected by the MBTA(the subway of Boston) :

 Brookline
Quincy
Cambridge

These cities are also connected but are a little farther out:

 Milton
Malden
Medford
Braintree
Winthrop
Everett
Revere
Newton
So, let's get back to what I was doing. I imput Waste Management, because I was thinking about the Environmental project group. The search engine came back with this:

Upon seeing this, I made a second choice: Engineers-Energy Management and I received 5 names and addresses.

 Category:

 Engineers-Energy Management State(s) :Massachusetts

Aerospace Systems Inc Asi
121 Middlesex Tpke, Burlington, MA 01803
(617) 272-7517

 Applied Resources Group Inc
37 Harvard, Brookline, MA 02146
(617) 277-2102

 Energy Investments
1 Winthrop Sq, Boston, MA 02110
(617) 482-8228

 Noresco
111 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701
(508) 875-2252

 Tysak Engineering
29 Flint Rd, Acton, MA 01720
(508) 635-9336

Now I have names and addresses and I could start writing letters or I could search for more information on each of these companies. Now that you have the name of the company you could do search will yahoo or any of the other search engines and you may find the company's homepage or articles in which the company is mentioned. One really nice bit of information would be a FAX number. Especially if I were pressed for time, I could send a fax instead of a letter. Now that I have these names and addresses perhaps I should call the company and ask for the name of the director of research or human resources or whoever I want to get an interview with. Sometimes time spent talking with the secretary or the receptionist is the most valuable. You might find e-mail addresses as well. The only problem with e-mailing companies is that those that are on the web receive many requests each day and they have evolved defensive measures to combat the high influx of e-mails. Thus, an old fashioned envelope that comes in the post has a sort of rarity to it. Especially if it comes from far away France. Remember lots of people like to collect stamps as well. This means if you can choose a pretty stamp for the same amout of money, do so. This is one method of searching for an internship and it does allow you to specify the region. Hey if you have any hints on how to improve the search please e-mail me at
Ready to get started then go to:
